Mental Illness Is Defined At The Federal Level - 1130 Words

Mental disorders can affect individuals in different ways. They can cause changes in an individual’s mood, behavior, and especially in their thoughts. This can greatly affect how an individual might relate to others, and also factor into the life choices that they make. Individuals who suffer from severe mental illnesses (SMI’s) are at a greater disadvantage than other individuals. Severe mental illness is defined at the federal level as â€Å"having, at any time during the past year, a diagnosable mental, behavior, or emotional disorder that causes serious functional impairment that substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities.†1. These can include mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, bipolar†¦show more content†¦Between the years of 200-2010, the suicide rate among individuals never having served in the military was 5.2, and 20.9 per 100,000 for females and males respectively. When comparing these same years among veterans of the military, the numbers increase to 28.7, and 32.1 for females and males respectively per 100,000 people. Every day, there are between 18-22 veteran suicides7. As a whole, people with severe mental illnesses die an average of 33 years younger than those individuals who do not suffer from an SMI. Individuals who suffer from severe mental illnesses can have trouble with simple everyday tasks such as brushing their teeth, cleaning themselves, working, and many others. In addition, they may also have problems beginning and maintaining relationships, sleeping, increased anxieties and fears, and trouble maintaining their independence. Many of these individuals also have problems which are exacerbated by the type, and amount of medication that they may be taking. This interaction may make the above symptoms, and many others like it, worse. When this happens, the individuals’ ability to take care of themselves, or others, is severely limited as many of them become more withdrawn from society. While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has had many detractors, one of the benefits was to address behavioral health issues. The ACA established 10 essential health benefits which all medical insurers must cover. These benefits are ambulatory

Emily Dickinson Individualism And Conformism - 889 Words

We are in a world that strives for conformity. People who are â€Å"different† are socially outcasted. To be a conformist means to be similar to everyone else. I personally don’t want to conform to society. I am afraid that if I’m not the same as everyone else, I may be outcasted. It’s a difficult battle. Either being true to myself or conforming to society. American Individualism means to have the will power to choose to be an individualist or a conformist and it also means to be your own self no matter the consequences. Emily Dickinson was an American poet from the 19th century was not recognized as poet until after her death. She wrote an abundance of over two thousand poems. Dickinson was not a social person. She mainly kept to†¦show more content†¦I believe that this means to not worry over the smallest things. There are several ways has society been very materialistic. Everyone seems to want the latest sports car or makeup palette. They don’t realize that those unrealistic assets are not needed in life to be happy. This poem relates to American Individualism because it expresses that people should be happy with their actions. Their actions does not define them but it can be take control on your life if you allow it to. The third connection that I concluded between a certain poem to American Individualism was found in Walt Whitman’s â€Å"I Hear America Singing†. In this poem, I felt as though Whitman was describing the working class as hard workers. And how everyone is happy with helping the economy of America grow. The jobs listed in this poem are a carpenter, mason, boatman, etc. I notice that these jobs are jobs that are not looked upon as important. But no matter the circumstances these workers still choose to work these kinds of jobs. In line five, Walt Whitman describes a boatman singing cheerfully as he starts his day. â€Å"The boatman singing what belongs to him in his boat.†(5)This shows the happiness of a boatman and how he enjoys his job. And even how society may view his job as unimportant, he still enjoys his job. He enjoys his job because he’s trying his best to achieve the American Dream. I know the struggles that my parents had to deal, They had to put aside their race and

Abstract For economic modeling in the Ganges Basin, an estimate of the water demand in the Ganges Dependent Area (GDA) in Bangladesh is required. This paper outlines a method for estimating this water demand. The proposed method is based on the integration of hydrological and hydraulic process models with economic models. In Bangladesh, a variety of mathematical models are currently used to estimate the impacts on Bangladesh’s water resources system for different: upstream flow conditions, local hydrologic situations, Bay of Bengal circumstances, etc. The models include basin level hydrological models, 1-dimensional and 2-dimensional hydrodynamic models, morphological model, salinity model, Bay of Bengal model, etc. The first step in the proposed method it to use these models to simulate a range of hydrologic and hydraulic scenarios in the GDA in Bangladesh. The next step involves using the outputs from these physical process models as inputs to economic models that estimate the economic benefits (and costs) in the GDA. These economic models will focus on different sectors that can potentially benefit from additional freshwater flows to the region, e. g. irrigated agriculture, open-water and capture fisheries, navigation, ecosystem services (particularly the Sundarbans), dredging of river channels, water logging in polder areas, water supply, etc. For example, currently there is practically no flow into the Gorai River, a key river in the GDA, from the Ganges during the months of January to May. As a result, there is increased river salinity and sedimentation in the southwest region. Additional flows will not only allow increased agriculture production and improve water supply options but also reduce the costs of regular dredging of key rivers in the region. These estimated benefits represent economic water demands for the GDA in Bangladesh. How to cite Ganges River Flow Benefits for Bangladesh – How to Estimate It?, Papers
